Law, Government, and Public Service Minor
The mission of the Law, Government, and Public Service Minor is to develop critical thinking skills for understanding and analyzing the laws and structures that support government and nonprofit organizations.
This minor offers undergraduate students an early opportunity to engage with the legal and organizational systems that shape government and public service work. The curriculum is designed for students interested in law, public administration, public policy, and other related fields, preparing them for future careers in public service. The learning objectives of the minor are as follows:
- Understand the basic sources and structures of law, including constitutional, statutory, and case law.
- Learn to craft, analyze, and evaluate legal arguments.
- Apply public management theories that inform the ways that government and nonprofit organizations meet public needs.
- Analyze the impact of the institutional dynamics and interactions of public service organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
- Understand how law and government affect daily life.
Requirements
In addition to the program requirements listed below, students must:
- take at least nine hours of their minor "core" requirements at UNC–Chapel Hill
- earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000 in the minor core requirements. Some programs may require higher standards for minor or specific courses.
