YDSH 401.  Elementary Yiddish I.  3 Credits.

Yiddish 401 introduces students to the four language skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing - in rich cultural context. Using In eynem: The New Yiddish Textbook (Vol. I) as the primary text, plus selected materials from College Yiddish (Weinreich) for reference and drills, students will gain command of the alef-beys (ABC), core grammar (present tense verbs, noun gender and case in basic contexts), and an expanding everyday vocabulary. Class time emphasizes communicative practice, pair/group activities, and cultural media (songs, short dialogues, images).
