The Graduate Certificate in Women’s Health Research (WHR) provides trainees with a formal program of courses and seminars to develop specialized research training in the field of women’s health. Trainees within this program have access to an interdisciplinary education as well as collaborations with medical students in the Women’s Health Scholarly Concentration Program to promote future partnerships between emerging clinical scientists and research scientists in this field. Graduate students who complete this certificate will gain:
- Fundamental knowledge of women’s health and the drivers behind sex-associated pathologies
- A strong understanding of current research and critical knowledge gaps within the field of women’s health and sex-associated pathologies
- Specialization of the research skills necessary to pursue advanced research questions within this field of study
- Mentoring and academic support from faculty advisors/directors
- Networking opportunities with clinical, translational, and basic researchers and trainees within this field of study at UNC and beyond
- Opportunities to refine scientific communication and presentation skills through presenting work at research symposiums
- Interdisciplinary collaborations with medical students in the School of Medicine’s Women’s Health Scholarly Concentration Program to enhance interprofessional education opportunities
- Expansion of research opportunities and peer-peer/mentor-mentee collaborations across UNC
- Exposure to the vast array of career opportunities in women’s health and career development support.

Non-Course Certificate Requirements
